Residents across west central Saskatchewan are preparing for a packed Canada Day, with several communities hosting events that range from pancake breakfasts and live music to swimming, games and fireworks.
Kindersley
Canada Day celebrations in Kindersley will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kindersley Museum, co-hosted by the Town of Kindersley, the Kindersley Museum and Better Together Kindersley.
The Kindersley Legion Branch #57 will kick off the day with a pancake breakfast, followed by a colour guard ceremony and flag-raising at 11 a.m. Throughout the morning, attendees can enjoy a range of food options, including cake provided by the Town, a barbecue by the Museum and Filipino cuisine from Glen’s Kitchen.
Additional attractions include live music, face painting, wagon rides, games, a photobooth and prize giveaways. Admission to the museum is by donation.
The afternoon continues at Rotary Park between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., where activities include bouncy castles, a dunk tank, an obstacle course, barrel train rides, temporary tattoos and more live entertainment. Food trucks from Glen’s Kitchen and Out of Africa Deli and Sweets will also be on site.
The Kindersley Aquatic Centre is offering a free public swim during the same hours.
Unity
Unity’s Canada Day festivities take place at the Unity Museum Grounds. A pancake breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a church service at Swarthmore Church.
Live music and family activities will run throughout the day, including performances by Robert’s Traditional All Country Music after the service and Velvet Hand at 2 p.m. Other attractions include outdoor games, horse-drawn wagon rides and an exhibit by Diamond Valley Reptiles.
Leader
Leader will begin its Canada Day events at 11 a.m. with a community bike parade starting at the Community Hall. The parade will make its way to the Millennium Gardens for a flag-raising ceremony and cupcakes.
The afternoon will feature free swimming, foam-filled bouncy castles, crafts, colouring stations and glitter tattoos. Celebrations will conclude with fireworks at dusk at the town’s ball diamonds.
Outlook
Outlook will host a $5 pancake breakfast at the Outlook Heritage Centre from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by a Canada Day parade at 11 a.m.
A barbecue lunch and family-friendly activities will follow, including live dance performances, public swimming, Bingo and local music acts.
Rosetown
Rosetown will mark the holiday with a Canada Day pool party at the Rosetown Leisure Aquatic Centre from 1 to 3 p.m.
