St. Malo is getting ready to throw a Canada Day celebration, and organizers say there's something for everyone to enjoy.
Kristine Braun, Wellness Facilitator at Rat River Recreation, says they’ve put together a day of entertainment.
“We have a very exciting day planned. We are hosting a Canada Day at St. Malo School in St. Malo. Our event is running from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. And then fireworks at dusk.”
The entire event is free to attend and will feature a wide variety of family-friendly activities.
“We have, from 12 to 1 p.m., meet your local heroes. So, we have the Fire Department that will be coming to do a little demonstration and the Police Department.”
Kids will be thrilled to meet Dee Dee the Clown, who’ll be bringing her signature fun to the celebration.
“She will be there doing some face painting. We'll have balloon animals, and the Lollipop Show that they do.”
Throughout the afternoon, visitors can enjoy classic lawn games like cornhole, giant kick darts, and giant Connect Four. There will also be a bouncy castle to keep the younger crowd entertained.
As the day winds down, the evening will pick up with live music and food.
“We will have a live band from 4 to 7 p.m. and then we will have a BBQ with food to purchase, and all those proceeds are going towards children's programming in our community.”
The featured entertainment is the J-Doe Trio, known for their mix of classic rock and crowd-pleasing favourites.
“They will be playing a variety of music. They're really great and I'm sure everyone will be very entertained,” Braun says.
She also took a moment to thank the many supporters who help make events like this possible.
“And also just to extend our sincere gratitude to St. Malo School, they graciously allow us to run our programs in the community. And St. Malo is truly a special place. The school support for Rec and Wellness initiatives is really invaluable, and we are just so grateful for our partnership with them!”
