The City of Grande Prairie advises residents of road closures, transit route changes and temporary Eastlink Centre facility impacts due to the Grande Prairie Triathlon taking place Sunday, July 6.
Facility Impacts
The Eastlink Centre serves as the central venue for the triathlon.
To accommodate event preparations, the West Fraser Fieldhouse closes to the public at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 5 for the athlete carb-load dinner. The aquatics area closes at 6:30 p.m. the same evening for event setup.
On Sunday, July 6, the following Eastlink Centre amenities are unavailable to the public during the times below:
- Aquatics area: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- West Fraser Fieldhouse: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- The dive tank will remain closed during public swim for the day.
All other amenities, including the fitness centre, concourse, indoor track, squash and racquetball courts and Design Works Centre, remain open.
Spectators are encouraged to come out and support participants throughout the day.
Transportation Impacts
Motorists are advised of the following road closures to accommodate the triathlon route:
·North Knowledge Way closes at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 5
·Starting at 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 6:
o East Knowledge Way and the Design Works Centre parking lot.
o 68 Avenue in both directions between west Knowledge Way and Poplar Drive.
o 100 Street between 67 Avenue and 72 Avenue.
o Kateri Drive at 68 Avenue.
Roadways are restricted to local traffic only and are expected to reopen to the public by 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 6.
Transit Impacts
Routes 1, 2 and 5 are being re-routed to accommodate the event. The following stops are closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 6:
- Route 1: Stops 118, 120, 124 and 2000
- Route 2: Stops 224, 226, 228, 230, 234, 236, 238 and 2000
- Route 5: Stops 534, 536, 540 and 2000
