Race days are a great chance to get the family together and enjoy time outdoors
Categories

I have been around racing my entire life.

My dad has years of circle track experience on the dirt and asphalt, a few drag race cars capable of turning heads; those speeds nothing compared to my former NHRA top-alcohol dragster driver uncle.

One common theme around racing is family. In the pits, in the stands, at the starting line, or even napping in the camper for the younger crowd.

The family values remain strong even when it's the best of the best. When my dad tagged along with my uncle to an NHRA event in Seattle years ago, a visit to the starting line for a funny car race put him just a short distance away from the family of legendary driver John Force, ready to cheer their father, uncle, grandpa, or maybe just their favourite friend on.

Quick to corroborate the family aspect of racing was none other than Good to Go Racing's Shayne Neigum, the main driver behind the annual dirt drags spectacle at the East 40 Motorplex, now affectionately named the Norm Neigum World Series of Mud & Dirt Drags in honour of his recently passed father.

"Stormin' Norman" as he was called started racing 30+ years ago, and as a result, Shayne has had a passion for racing his whole life.

A passion that he can carry on to the next generation.

Shayne recently joined Nick Cooper and I in studio with the event now less than a month out.

From discussing the high-octane action itself, to the new namesake behind the event, you can hear our conversation with Neigum in a special Cooper² edition of 'The Scoop' this week below:
