RCMP in the Central Plains area, covering Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth, and surrounding rural municipalities, responded to 305 calls for service between June 23 and June 29, 2025.
Traffic violations and provincial statutes
During this period, the RCMP delt with 83 traffic offences under the Highway Traffic Act, investigated six vehicle collisions, and charged five impaired drivers.
They also handled 34 calls related to provincial statutes, including the Mental Health Act and Child Welfare Act.
Crimes against persons and property
Police responded to 12 assaults, three assaults with a weapon, and four incidents of uttering threats.
Property crimes included 18 thefts, one motor vehicle theft, two break and enters, and 28 mischief cases.
Notable arrests
On June 23, Portage la Prairie RCMP arrested a 22-year-old woman for theft under $5,000 after she was detained by local safety officers near a Saskatchewan Avenue East business.
Jennifer Fitzpatrick, 32, of Portage la Prairie is charged with theft under $5,000 and fail to comply with a release order following a June 25 theft at a Saskatchewan Avenue West business.
On June 26, a 14-year-old youth from Portage la Prairie was arrested on charges of possession of weapons for dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.
June 28 saw the arrest of a 17-year-old female from Dakota Tipi First Nation after a fight at a Countess Avenue East residence; she faces charges of assault and mischief under $5,000.
