It has been a soggy morning for parts of Southern Manitoba. The hot and humid air moving through our province brought some intense thunderstorms overnight.

According to Manitoba Agriculture, these are the rain totals for Friday, as of 7 am:

  • Zhoda - 42.0 millimetres (mm)
  • Gardenton - 33.3 mm
  • Dominion City - 30.7 mm
  • Rosa - 27.3 mm
  • St. Labre - 15.4 mm
  • Sprague Lake - 11.8 mm
  • Marchand - 7.3 mm
  • Elma - 4.4 mm
  • St. Adolphe - 3.5 mm
  • Richer - 3.4 mm
  • Prawda - 3.3 mm
  • Vivian - 3.3 mm
  • Dugald - 2.9 mm
  • Steinbach - 2.5 mm
  • St. Pierre - 1.5 mm
  • Beausejour - 1.1 mm
  • Stead - .9 mm
  • Lac du Bonnet - .6 mm

Meanwhile, in southwestern Manitoba Thursday night, tornado warnings were issued for two places: the R.M. of Pipestone and Municipality of Two Borders.

"We had pretty strong wind gusts (last night)," says Dan Fulton, a meteorologist with Environment Canada. "The highest I saw was 115 kilometres per hour, but there were quite a few stations that reported over the 90 to 115 kilometre per hour range."

Fulton says some areas Thursday night also received heavy downpours with up to 25 millimetres of rain falling per hour.

A heat warning remains in effect for parts of Southern Manitoba, including Steinbach. Today's high is 31 degrees with a humidex of 40. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms today.

"That heat and humidity again building up will trigger another chance of thunderstorms late this afternoon into early this evening," says Fulton. "After that round, a cold front moves through tonight. That should bring us back to much more comfortable weather for the weekend."

The forecasted high for Steinbach on Saturday is 25 degrees, and on Sunday 22. The normal high for this time of year is 26 degrees.
