The Zegil Automotive and Transmission and Pure Country Meats' fifth annual car show returns to Strathmore this weekend.

On Saturday (July 5), there will be a ton of activities and attractions for the event at the Strathmore Ag Grounds. The highlight of the event is the vintage cars and community BBQ, which raises funds for Rescued Paws at Alpine View.

"We got together one day and were discussing it, and I said we should put a BBQ on with it. Make it a little bit bigger, and a bit more of an event," said Shawn Tourout, owner of Pure Country Meats. "It's an expensive event to put on, and for the two businesses together, it just takes the heat off of it. We don't take any money back at all. It all goes into charity."

You don't need to own a fancy classic car to enter the event. For the cost of $15, you can have your vehicle join the ranks at the Ag Grounds. For those who don't want to enter, they can still come to the event to vote for which vehicles they like the most. The winners will receive a prize.

There are other non-car-related activities at the show, as well. There will be raffles, a cornhole tournament, and a dog adoption event hosted by Rescued Paws.

"It's just a good time. Zegil promotes their business, and I bring the barbecue," added Tourot. "Kids can come out. We have the bouncy houses there, we'll have pets, and there are so many events there."

The event has been hosted at the Strathmore Ag Grounds for the last few years. Originally, the car show was held outside, between the two stores in southern Strathmore.

"We had that field packed. The street was packed. The next year was the same, and we realized we had to go somewhere else. We couldn't even fit another car in there," said Harold Zegil, owner of Zegil Automotive and Transmission. "We didn't really advertise it too much, and Shawn served around 700 people."

There will also be a special pedal bike and pedal car competition for the kids. Any child interested can bring their pedal vehicle to the event to be judged.

"If you get a bunch of car guys and people together, it's like a big BBQ in your backyard," added Zegil. "When Shawn puts the barbecue on, it's nonstop. This year we've got help so he can enjoy the show."

All residents are invited to join, with the event free to attend.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
