The provincial softball season kicked off around the province this past weekend with a few different tournaments, including U11 Girls 'B' North in Macklin featuring several local teams as part of 23 in total making the trip to the west-central community.
The Macklin Lakers and Unity Panthers shared the Green Pool with four other teams. Macklin finished 2-1, Unity at 1-2, neither able to advance to Sunday's playoff round.
The Rosetown Angels were the only local team in the Blue Pool and went winless in their three games. Biggar headlined the Orange Pool and went 2-1, while Elrose in the Yellow Pool went 2-1 to represent the only team moving on to championship Sunday.
Elrose would lose 11-5 to the eventual champion Edam Blue Sox, who went undefeated on the weekend with a +36-run differential into the semi-finals where things got a little closer, Edam beating Melfort 4-3 to move into the finals where they beat Wynyard 7-1 to claim gold.
The tournament was one of four U11 Softball Saskatchewan brackets going on around the province, the other three in Regina, Saskatoon, and Moosomin.
U19 Softball
The only other local provincial teams in action this weekend were the Rosetown Angels and Macklin Lakers playing U19 girls 'C" provincials in Regina. After a hard-fought weekend, the Angels and Lakers found themselves matched up in the gold-medal game where Rosetown won 15-8 to close out an undefeated run at provincials.
