The Wilkie Museum marked another successful Canada Day celebration with its second annual event on July 1.

Festivities began with a pancake breakfast at the New Horizons Hall, where attendees were served flapjacks, slow-cooked ham, and hashbrown patties. Later in the day, the celebration shifted to the Ed Elder building, where bays usually reserved for the museum’s vintage vehicles, a 1929 Ford Model A and a 1954 Chevy fire truck, were cleared out for live entertainment.

Musical performances were provided by Dan Wilgenbusch, along with Colin and Eddy Keller, drawing a large afternoon crowd. In the evening, the Swingsters performed classic tunes while guests enjoyed a barbecue supper, complete with salads, beans and dessert.

The day also featured the final draw for the museum’s Hometown Raffle. Saige Veit of Wilkie won a pharmacy gift basket, while the grand prize leather package went to Joe Jaindl.

Thanks to strong community support and fundraising efforts, the museum has begun restoration work on the RM building steps and the Cavell School House. Upgrades to the Bachelor House are expected to begin soon.

The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed over the lunch hour from noon to 1 p.m. Summer programming is now underway, led by two student staff.

The next fundraising event will take place on Saskatchewan Day, Aug. 4, with a community breakfast, musical entertainment, and afternoon activities.
