Starting last Monday and ending over the weekend, the Brick Invitational Hockey tournament is one of the first dreams for any young hockey player eyeing the next level.
Not only are the games played in the Alberta capital right inside the heart of West Edmonton Mall, but the enthralling experience also features a chance to get a look at some of the best young talent the world has to offer, more than a few Brick alumni making the NHL.
Three west-central players were part of the Saskatchewan Junior Pats, forward Jack Reinbold, forward Jacoby Calkins, and defenseman River Andrews, playing in the tournament that marked a long time coming. The elite event showcased incredible skill and determination all week long in Edmonton as Reinbold, Calkins, and Andrews had to battle for every shift.
"The level of competition was outstanding, and these boys certainly rose to the occasion." shared one of the parents in a submission. "Way to go, Jack, Jacoby, and River — you made your hometown and province proud!"
The Pats were part of the Wigston Conference and played six games. Their tournament started with two games on Monday, a 4-2 win over the Toronto Bulldogs, and then a 2-1 OT loss to the Boston Jr. Bruins. The Pats only game on Tuesday was a 4-2 loss to the BC Junior Canucks, and then on Wednesday they lost another overtime game 5-4 to Team Minnesota. Thursday was another loss 6-3 to the Western Selects, and then a 5-4 defeat against the Detroit Jr. Red Wings on Friday ended their tournament.
Despite the results, things weren't lopsided in any regard for the Pats. They ended the tournament with a -6-goal differential and scored the third most goals in their pool despite finishing sixth. Amongst the team Calkins finished second in scoring with 4 points (3 goals, 1 assist), Reinbold had 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists), and then Andrews didn't score from his defense post.

Only six teams of the fourteen teams advanced to the playoff round Saturday. The BC Junior Canucks met Toronto Pro Hockey in the finals, ending in a highlight reel game winner for Toronto as you can watch the moment memories were made below.
