Two pilots are dead following a mid-air collision between two small aircraft on Tuesday morning in southeastern Manitoba.

The plane crash happened just before 9 a.m. in the Rural Municipality of Hanover, south of Steinbach. Steinbach RCMP were notified at 8:45 a.m. and responded along with local fire services and EMS.

Emergency crews located the wreckage of two single-engine planes. Both pilots, who were the only people aboard their respective aircraft, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release from the RCMP.

RCMP say they will provide further details at a press conference scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been notified and will be investigating the cause of the crash.
