This week’s recipient of the KPMG Taste of Summer Charity BBQ was Soups On, taking in donations of $2,519, which will go toward their summer family lunch program.

Norma Hildebrand, lunch program director with Soup's On, is thankful for the support.

“I'm honoured. I am excited. Thank you to everyone coming out and enjoying this beautiful day, but mostly for donating to Soup's. So that we, in turn, can help the kids out there.”

Hildebrand says that she enjoyed hearing people's stories. One teacher was grateful for the impact on the students.

"I was just talking to a schoolteacher and the difference she sees in kids when they get to have a lunch at school, it just makes a big difference to the teachers, even and to the students that now can focus on their studies."

Hildebrand says it feels good to have community support.

“We are all about community. We could not do it without the community, without the support, without the volunteers. Absolutely, as a community process.”

500 hot dogs sold out fast as families lined up along the sidewalk. Many people bought handfuls of lunch to share with others.

“It's overwhelming to see that many families and kids just wanting to help. People in the community just wanting to pitch in. I love it.”

Hildebrand is grateful for the team of volunteers working with her. If you are interested in volunteering or learning more, you can check out the Soup's On website.

“There's a place to sign up. There's a place to donate. Check us out. See what we're all about.”
