The City of Grande Prairie is investing in a series of projects to enhance and beautify public spaces, creating welcoming places for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Approved through the City’s Community Enhancement Funding, the projects aim to improve the look and feel of key areas while also supporting practical needs like stormwater management, accessibility and long-term maintenance. The updates contribute to more attractive and enjoyable public spaces that serve the community well into the future.

The approved projects include:

  • Tree grove installations along 100 Street
New groves are being added between 116 Avenue and 139 Avenue to beautify the corridor leading to the future recreation facility and expand the City’s urban forest.
  • Beautification of the triangle median near Bear Creek
The triangular median between 99 Avenue and 100 Avenue west of Bear Creek is being converted into a vegetated bioswale, combining visual improvements with stormwater function, including slowing runoff and filtering potential pollutants.
  • Parkette upgrades at 100 Avenue and 100 Street
With resurfaced brickwork and the removal of damaged planters, this project enhances the space’s appearance while reducing upkeep.
  • Dock and fence replacement at Ernie Radbourne Pavilion
To improve safety and accessibility, the aging wooden dock and fencing, now at the end of their lifespan, are being replaced with composite materials designed for long-term use.

The Community Enhancement Funding program helps ensure Grande Prairie continues to grow as a city with spaces that are not only beautiful, but purposeful and built for long-term community use and enjoyment.
