It's been a solid summer for golf sensation Ty Brewster has he recently was part of the Junior Championships that were held on his home course and he's no prepared to make some noise at the next event which is underway starting today.

Before detailing what is happening now, Brewster reflected on the Manitoba Junior Championship and what it meant to have it at Quarry Oaks. "It was my home course and it meant a lot to try and put up a good number," he says with a smile. "A lot of people from the province are good golfers, so to put up a good number on my home course, that meant a lot."

Competing at an event like that always seems to bring out the best in the young star. "It meant the world," he says beaming. "Sometimes it's hard to mentally focus like that for three days, but I've been at it for a long time and I've worked on that a lot this year. To stay in contention for those three days, it meant the world."

When it comes to where his golf game is at, Brewster says it's in a really solid place in all areas, but picked one out in particular. "Quarry Oaks, it's a great course and it can be tight off the tee, you need a lot of good tee shots. I felt that week that I hit a very good tee ball and had very good game management. Went for the pins I should and laid off the the pins I shouldn't, just felt like off the tee and mentally, that I was very strong."

"Being able to put up a good number like that, it definitely gives you confidence heading into the next event," Brewster says as that next event is now under way. "A lot of those guys will remember that I played well last week, and going into an event as a guy that has to be beaten is a lot different from what it's been so far. It's a bit of a change, but I like it."

Monday marks the start of the Men's Amateur Championship being held at Southwood Golf Course in Winnipeg. "So, it's two rounds, then a cut, then a final round on Wednesday," Brewster explains. "I'll be playing against anyone in Manitoba that wants to play, pretty much any age. That's one of the bigger events that Manitoba holds."

The opportunity to score well and keep building his name in golf is not lost on the young man. "100%," Brewster says boldly. "It's not just junior golf this event. If I can go out and beat a lot of some of the older guys, it shows that I'm up there as one of the best golfers in the province. Plus, it's good to have a junior high up on that leaderboard. Hopefully, I can be that guy this week."

At Quarry Oaks, he was good off the tee and Brewster says he'll have to have that and another part of this game dialed in for Southwood. "Coming off last week, I know how important the tee ball is, but within 50 yards, my wedge shots is something I've been working on a lot. This course has some very challenging greens, so I think that just being able to attack pins and give myself birdie opportunities will be huge."

Brewster says he loves competing, but he also makes sure that golf stays fun. "I try and be at the course every day, but there are two or three times a week that I'll practice, hang out with buddies or mix in the odd fishing trip. Practice is important, but making sure to hang out with friends, it's great to have that balance, for sure."

Representing Quarry Oaks and his community at tournaments is something Brewster takes a lot of pride in. "It means everything," he says with excitement. "Quarry has always treated me great, the pro Darren Hayden, he's treated me awesome. To go out and play for Quarry Oaks and Steinbach, it means everything. I know there are a bunch of people around here that are cheering me on and wanting me to do well, so to have those people having my back, it means everything."
