It's a Summer staple for Altona's Gallery in the Park, switching from physical art pieces to the musical arts for a couple evenings throughout the Summer months and this Thursday (July 17th) marks the first one of the season!

Current Exhibitions

Renae Friesen is the new Curator & Gallery Manager with Altona's Gallery in the Park and she stopped by to talk about the current exhibits on at the gallery, "We have Miriam Rudolph, who has been with us before. She is a printmaker from Paraguay who now lives in Winnipeg with her family. She has two exhibitions going on. She's got 'Layered Histories: Perspectives on Colonization from the Chaco', which is a region in Paraguay where she grew up, and we have 'Storied Land: (Re)Mapping Winnipeg' and those are both on the main floor of the gallery.

We also have 'Faith, Loss, Renewal: The Russlaender Mennonites' ByAnikó Szabó and Aileen Friesen who is exhibiting on the 2nd floor.

We also have our 'Gallery in the Park Permanent Collection', which hasn't been all on display in one place in many, many years."

Friends of the Gallery

Renae also touched on an initiative, "Friends of the Gallery", "So the friends of the gallery are a generous group of citizens who recognize the gem that we have in gallery in the park in Altona and within the community and they donate money to help us run things like music nights or special events. They get to hear about these special events sooner than the general public, and they also get invited to exclusive opening galas for the exhibits that are again, open before the public. So it's pretty cool to be a friend of the gallery. There are many perks to being a friend of the gallery for sure.

First Music Night of the season!

"We've got three different groups opening the night. 3 blind mice, that is 3 W.C Miller students, Morley Wall, Kenji Amuro and Henry Forshaw and they play a variety of different music across a variety of different instruments. Then we have Curt and Wanda Friesen and then we have Nya and the 10th Ave. Band, which consists of five community members.
