Rosetown RCMP received a report of a suspicious male, believed to be armed, in a parked truck outside of a Rosetown business this past weekend.

Police received the call around 9:05 a.m. on Saturday morning. Officers responded immediately and spotted the truck on Highway Four.

RCMP initiated a traffic stop, although the truck fled, continuing on Highway Four at a high rate of speed.

Not long after, police located the truck parked on an approach roughly 11 kilometres north of Elrose. A traffic stop was conducted, and the suspect was arrested without further incident.

A search of the vehicle turned up a small sword, a bat, and an item that was initially believed to be a firearm. It was later determined that the weapon was a BB gun imitation of a pistol.

63-year-old Terry Hanson was charged with five counts;

  • One count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon,
  • One count of flight from police,
  • One count of possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, and
  • One count of breach of a probation order.

The resident of Rosetown had his first court appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Monday.
