On July 13, 2025, just before 11 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP and GPPS responded to reports of a stolen fuel truck and trailer. Officers arrived on scene and located the vehicle, who fled. RCMP and GPPS members monitored the progress of the semi and noted that it was starting to drive erratically and was becoming a danger to the public. Officers were authorized to stop the semi, with Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) joining to assist, and use Tire Deflation Devices (TDD) whenever safe to do so. TDDs were deployed and were eventually successful. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was stopped approximately 250 meters later by the Police Dog. The suspect was treated for minor injuries from the altercation.
As a result of the investigation, Rory Jordan Serna (31), a resident of Myrnam, Alta., and known prolific offender, was charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000;
- Failure to stop at scene of accident;
- Failure to stop for police officer;
- Dangerous driving;
- Driving while prohibited;
- Obstruct police officer; and
- Failure to comply with release order (x2).
Serna was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He it to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on July 28, 2025.
