A new event in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Ritchot is sprinting to reality.
Run Run Ritchot, the area's first-ever fun run, has officially been scheduled for Oct. 5 at the St. Adolphe River Park.
Danielle Peters, community engagement coordinator with the RM, says the run offers one and five kilometer options.
Anyone is welcome to participate, she adds.
"It's not just for residents of the RM of Ritchot. Anyone who runs regularly, or has never done it before, this is an opportunity to come, hangout with your community, get a little fitness going on, and just have some fun."
Peters says the RM is planning to launch a couch-to-5K program for the month leading up to the race.
Those who participate would get a discount code to put towards registering for Run Run Ritchot.
If that wasn't incentive enough, in April the RM's mayor Chris Ewen challenged residents to try beating him in the event.
Peters says contestants may just have a running chance.
"I'm not sure if he's ever run a race before, but he seems very confident in his abilities," she laughs. "If you want to beat Mayor Chris Ewen, sign up for our race."
Interested runners, and non-runners, can register online by Sept. 7 at ritchot.com.
