A new chapter begins for the Steinbach Legion as they prepare to open their doors on Brandt Street this fall.
Accessibility for all
Bill Richards, President of the Steinbach Legion, says he is excited about this new location.
“It’s quite accessible and high visibility for us, so we’re very excited about moving. We’re happy about being there,” says Richards.
The previous location for the Legion was the Pat Porter Active Living Centre (PPALC). However, due to the PPALC’s abundance of activities and programming, the Legion decided to make the move to Brandt Street.
Small but mighty
Richards says the Steinbach Legion branch has roughly 50 members, with 25 – 30 living locally.
“We’re not very big, but we’re very valid, active, and important to the community,”
He hopes this new move will inspire new members.
“I’m hoping this will encourage other people who have thought about the Legion, to maybe join the Legion. We absolutely do need more members,” says Richards.
Fall festivities
Richards says they have renovated and installed a new sign, but the space isn’t open to the public just yet.
Richards explains that most legions close for the summer, and he hopes to hold a grand opening this fall – ideally before Remembrance Week.
“I have great expectations. I’m hoping it all comes to fruition,” says Richards.
Once the Legion has opened their doors, Richards hopes this new location will be a community hub for their members.
“People will be able to drop in, renew memberships, have a cup of coffee, get some information... The whole plan is to be more accessible to the public and enhance our profile.”
The Legion is excited about this fresh start and looks forward to opening its doors and bringing the community together this fall.
