The U11 Strathmore Reds baseball team is bringing provincials to town later this summer.
The club announced that the U11 Reds would be hosting the Tier 2 Baseball Alberta Provincial Championships at the Hillview diamond from Aug. 1 to Aug. 3.
"The event will bring in hundreds of people to Strathmore," said Jillian Weselosky, a board member with the Reds. "We've never hosted a U11 provincials, so this is a first for us."
The Reds put in an application earlier in the season, with Weselosky adding that she was surprised they were selected.
"We were able to lock a bunch of rooms at the hotels that people haven't snagged yet. We didn't think we would because of the rodeo."
There will also be local food trucks at the event, with the event expected to bring a lot of money into the community.
"This is my first year doing stuff on the board, so I'm just trying to get it a little more engaged in the community," added Weselosky.
There will be six teams taking part in the tournament, with all residents invited to join.
