The night sky is the stage once again for the Perseid Meteor shower. Starting tonight and going until August 21, you will be able to see meteors across the night sky with things peaking on the night of August 12.

This is all thanks to the Comet Swift-Tuttle, a comet that is close to the size of the meteor that removed the dinosaurs from the face of the planet.

The trick to seeing any of these nightly shows is waiting for a clear night, going somewhere with limited light pollution, and being patient. Also dress for the weather and pack things to keep the bugs off you.

Another couple of meteor showers to be aware of around the same time are the southern delta Aquariids, and the alpha Capricornids peaking the night of July 29

Now the last time Swift-Tuttle was closest to the sun, it was 1992 and the same thing won’t happen again until 2126.
