Brooks and Bassano RCMP, in partnership with the Brooks/Redcliff RCMP Traffic Unit and the County of Newell Enforcement Peace Officers, conducted a new crime and traffic initiative called "Operation Street Sweep".
The operation focused on locating individuals with outstanding warrants, conducting compliance checks on previous offenders, and addressing crime and aggressive driving behaviours on Thursday (July 3).
As a result, police executed 19 warrants on 10 individuals, leading to the following arrests:
- A 25-year-old man, arrested on five warrants for failure to comply with a probation order.
- a 54-year-old man, arrested on four warrants for dangerous operation of a vehicle, failure to comply with a breath demand, and failure to comply with a release order.
- a 22-year-old-man, arrested on three warrants for sexual assault, sexual interference, and failure to attend court.
Seven additional individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants related to various offenses.
Traffic enforcement results included:
- 11 speeding tickets
- 25 safety violation tickets
- One ticket issued to a learner driver operating a vehicle without supervision
- One ticket for an expired driver's license
- 25 warnings
- Two vehicle defect notices
In addition, nine compliance checks were also performed in Brooks on individuals bound by court-ordered conditions, and all individuals were found to be in compliance.
In Bassano, three compliance checks were conducted, and all individuals were found to be in compliance.
This operation is a new part of the Brooks and Bassano Detachment’s Policing Priorities and Crime Reduction programs.
