A multiplatinum, two-time Grammy Award-winning musician is headed to Steinbach to help celebrate a major milestone.

Providence University College and Seminary is marking 100 years, and as a part of the centennial "birthday-bash," Christian country artist Zach Williams will be playing at the Southeast Event Centre (SEC).

It's the only Canadian stop on the musician's tour.

Lindsey Post, Director of Development at Providence, says Williams was chosen to headline the celebration because of the deep impact his music has had on people in the community.

"We've been hearing lots of stories from people writing in excited about the concert, and that his music has meant something really significant to them," she says. "(Whether it's) a healing journey, or encouragement in their marriage, or even young kids are like, 'can we meet him?'"

Post says Williams also fits the community’s musical taste.

"We're country music fans here in southeastern Manitoba. So we're excited to bring such a big artist to the area, and just invite the whole community to celebrate 100 years with us," Post says.

Also joining the lineup is Jordan St. Cyr, a Christian artist originally from Niverville.

"There's a lot of people here that know him and love his music," she says.

Hosting the concert at the SEC is another exciting aspect of the event.

"It's the first big concert at the Southeast Event Centre," Post says. "We're thrilled to partner with them. I wish them all the success in this brand new venue for our community. I think it's so exciting to have this type of venue."

While the concert is a highlight, she says the centennial weekend will feature a full slate of events, including a gala, family fun festival with face painting, food trucks, and soccer games, and an on-campus worship service to wrap it all up.

"We're hoping it's a party. It's a celebration of God's faithfulness and the message of Christ and his redemption. We're excited that...God has been so faithful over the last 100 years, and we fully expect him to be faithful to Providence going into the next century," Post says.

Post adds that everyone is welcome to join in the festivities—no affiliation with Providence is required.
