Police stopped a speeder in Steinbach this last weekend, driving well over double the speed limit.
Steinbach RCMP and Ste. Anne Police Service joined forces to hand out a number of tickets over the weekend, under the Highway Traffic Act. In one incident, a motorist was clocked driving 128 kilometres per hour (km/h) in a 50 km/h zone. The driver received a $672 fine for careless driving, a $1,071 fine for speeding, and was issued a serious offence notice. Steinbach RCMP say one other driver received a $672 fine for driving carelessly over the weekend and issued a serious offence notice.
RCMP say a number of other tickets were issued to motorists under the Highway Traffic Act, including one for carrying liquor in a vehicle, one for unlawful transportation of cannabis in a vehicle, one for driving an unregistered vehicle, one for disobeying a stop sign, and one for failing to display a license plate, which carries a fine of $203. There were also several other speeding tickets issued, ranging from $251 to $351.
Meanwhile, Steinbach RCMP received 43 calls for service over the weekend. On Saturday at 3:45 am, RCMP received a report of a domestic assault that occurred in Steinbach. As a result, a 31-year-old male from Garden Hill faces charges of assault.
And, on Monday at 6:45 am, RCMP received a report of a stolen 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The blue car has Manitoba license plate LNM 507. It was allegedly taken from Clear Springs Road, near Highway 59, in the Rural Municipality of Hanover.
