Step into a world of culture and community at the City of Grande Prairie’s lively Heritage Day event happening Saturday, August 2 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Grande Prairie Museum’s Heritage Village.
The Heritage Day event highlights local history and diverse cultures in Grande Prairie, featuring fun, family-friendly activities like:
·Community and cultural booths.
·Blacksmith demonstrations.
·Ropemaking activity.
·Old fashioned bingo.
·Interactive Tub n’ Scrub laundry activity.
·Old fashioned games and carnival games, including can toss, shooting gallery and top taffel.
·PARDS petting zoo.
·HAM (amateur) radio demonstrations. HAM radios were used as a communication tool back in the 20th century for people to talk across the world before cell phones were created.
·Drumming circle performance from a local Indigenous group.
·Food vendors with cultural food dishes.
·And more!
Muskoseepi Park is the hub of activity for Heritage Day, with additional festivities taking place on August 2 including the Grande Prairie Intercultural Association Bites Around the World event and the Hindu Chariot Festival.

Call for community and cultural booths
The City is looking for community and cultural groups to set up booths and participate during the Heritage Day event.
There are various unique benefits to signing up a booth at the Heritage Day event, including:
- Showcasing your group’s heritage, traditions and customs.
- Offering an opportunity to increase visibility and engage with the community.
- Facilitating connections with other cultural and community groups.
- Contributing to the overall celebration of cultural diversity at the event.
- Educating others about the group’s history and their presence in the community.
Registered booths are encouraged to include interactive elements such as performances, activities or demonstrations to add to the overall event atmosphere.
