Firefighters battling a wildfire near the town of Leaf Rapids were forced to evacuate the community late Wednesday evening.
In a Facebook post, the Town of Leaf Rapids informed its residents that one of the fires in the area had jumped the Churchill River and entered the town through the industrial area.
The only information the town had last night was that the fire had spread further south than South Indian Lake Road at PR 391.
All personnel, including firefighters, had to evacuate the community on Wednesday.
Town officials say further information will not be available until later this morning due to thick smoke and the inability of crews to enter the town.
"Hope for the best, and if nothing else, be thankful everyone got out safely," said town officials.
The town was put under a mandatory evacuation order on July 7. They also declared a State of Emergency the same day.
