Fire crews returned to the town of Leaf Rapids Thursday morning after a wildfire burning close to the community jumped the Churchill River and entered the industrial area of town, forcing emergency crews to flee.

In a post made on social media, officials say that so far, only one house has been damaged.

"For all those who hoped and prayed for a miracle, information is that one normally occupied house on Utik Crescent is the only structure that appears to be damaged from the fire last night," said the Town of Leaf Rapids. "The owner of this house is being contacted directly. All other structures are standing and appear to be undamaged."

The town says the fire has burned forested areas in the northern portion of the town, with the southern half seeing very little impact. The fire also damaged several hydro poles in the community

"Crews are in town and have been for some time, putting out hotspots to prevent further damage."

All personnel, including firefighters, had to evacuate the community on Wednesday.

The town was put under a mandatory evacuation order on July 7. They also declared a State of Emergency the same day.
