A major new initiative is launching in Grande Prairie this August with the goal of improving how the community responds to domestic abuse, gender-based violence, and other urgent challenges facing local families.

Hope Grande Prairie, led by Odyssey House, is a collective impact initiative that brings together nearly 50 local organizations to work as one—sharing information, coordinating support, and building stronger wraparound services for those in crisis.

“This is bigger than Odyssey House,” says Executive Director Mikaela Benson. “It requires all of us to come out of our corners, pool our resources, and respond together.”

At the heart of the initiative is HopeHub, a secure digital platform that allows partner agencies to work collaboratively with client consent. By sharing files across organizations, clients no longer have to retell their story multiple times—helping reduce retraumatization and streamline care. The platform also allows teams to track progress on safety, housing, food security, and more in real time.

According to Benson, the need for a different approach has become urgent. “We’re seeing an increase in the complexity, frequency, and severity of domestic abuse cases,” she explains. “This model helps us all see the full picture and work together more effectively.”

The official launch of Hope Grande Prairie takes place August 14, 2025, with a community event that invites businesses, churches, healthcare workers, and everyday residents to get involved. The initiative aligns with the Government of Alberta’s 10-year strategy to end gender-based violence.
