A teenager from Winkler is facing several serious charges after fleeing from Altona police on Thursday.
According to the department's latest activities report, officers tried to stop a speeding car on Highway 201, but say the driver refused to stop and, instead, sped up. Eventually, the driver turned off of the highway and went down a municipal road, turning onto a rural yard before then fleeing on foot.
Police say the property owner was outside at the time and saw the whole thing, noting he'd never seen the vehicle for the driver before.
After searching the yard, officers found the driver hiding behind a building. The 17-year-old was arrested a charged with several offences before being released to an adult family member.
Police say the driver would been issued a simple minor speeding ticket had she stopped initially. She is now facing a license suspension, on top of the more serious charges.
