A year after making some major life changes, including leaving her life of macabre and the occult to find God, Katherine von Drachenberg (Kat Von D) has made yet another change.
After being baptized in the Protestant church, Kat has decided to switch to an Orthodox church.
"Since officially entering the Orthodox Church this last Pascha, many of you have lovingly asked to hear more about why I converted from Protestant to Orthodoxy - and after speaking about it with Archpriest Father Steven, he strongly (and wisely) encouraged me to refrain from going out and doing any public interviews etc about it until after at least a year. Which I think is great advice," said Kat Von D in a post on Instagram. "Regardless, I never want to 'hide' where I am, spiritually speaking, but am OK in waiting until I am better equipped to represent the Church that I love so much."
Kat Von D recently went on tour in Europe, and while there, she visited different Orthodox parishes throughout every country.
"It brings me joy to share some of the beauty of Orthodoxy within these sacred (and historic) places with you, whether you are Orthodox Christian or not."
While she is not willing to open up fully about this transition at this time, she hopes this sneak peek into her faith will give others the chance to learn.
"In the meantime, I hope you enjoy peeking into this window - it’s the biggest part of my life that most of the time I keep to myself and loved ones," Kat Von D explained. "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
Kat says it took a lot for her to share her baptism with the world, and she is shocked that we are still living in a time when people judge a book by its cover.
"I didn't get baptized to be saved. I was already saved. I didn't get baptized to make it about me. It was never about me," said Kat. "I love you no matter what. I might not be down with how you do life, but that is no reason to hate or criticize."
Kat Von D marked 18 years of sobriety earlier this month.
