An annual Canadian Cowboys Association-sanctioned stampede is set to kick off this Friday in the Town of Herbert, featuring over a dozen rodeo events.

The 38th Herbert Stampede will include a food booth, beer gardens, a brand new rodeo clown, and live grandstand entertainment on Friday and Saturday night featuring Lisa Moen.

Levi Speir, committee president for the Herbert Stampede, shared that admission at the gate is $15 for adults, $10 for youth, and children ages 10 and under get in for free.

"We draw in about 300 plus contestants every year," he said. "We paid out over $75,000 in prize money last year, and we upped our prize money this year, so we'll be expecting to pay out much more."

This year's Herbert Stampede will include;

  • Bareback riding,
  • Saddle bronc,
  • Bull riding,
  • Ladies' barrel racing,
  • Tie down roping,
  • Team roping,
  • Steer wrestling,
  • Breakaway roping,
  • Junior steer riding,
  • Junior girls barrel racing,
  • Novice bareback,
  • Novice saddle bronc,
  • A wild cow race,
  • A wild pony race, and
  • Mutton bustin.

"A main highlight this year is that we're bringing back our video replay, so it's a big screen of live action video," Speir added. "A crowd favourite every year is the wild cow racing, which we put on before the rodeo on Sunday."

The action begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and at 2:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
