The victim of a plane crash Saturday near Oakbank is being remembered by the aviation community as someone who loved flying and a dear friend who will be missed.
The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Winnipeg Chapter 63 has confirmed on social media that Peter Toth died Saturday after crashing his plane in the Rural Municipality of Springfield, south of Oakbank.
At approximately 11 o'clock that morning, RCMP, the local fire department, and Emergency Medical Services attended the scene and found the wreckage. It was a small, single-engine two-seater, lying on the north side of Highway 15, west of Provincial Road 206.
The body of Toth was recovered on scene. No other occupants were on board.
In a post Sunday afternoon, EAA Winnipeg Chapter 63 identified Toth as one of their most active members and that he loved working on their Emeraude and on his Challenger II. The post indicated he had only recently received his pilot license and had continued training by getting his seaplane rating.
Members responded to the post saying they appreciated conversations in the hangar with Toth, describing him as a "super awesome friendly guy."
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada and Oakbank RCMP continue to investigate.
