The KPMG Taste of Summer Charity BBQ raised $1,936.08 for Headway this week, all of which is going directly into supporting the community.
Heidi Harder Falk, Program Coordinator at Headway, explains what their organization does to help the community.
“We do community mobilization, so coordinating wrap-around teams of support around youth and adults who are struggling and just helping to bring all of the supports together so that everyone is on the same page and working together.”
The funds raised from the charity barbecue will help connect people to the supports they need when there are financial barriers.
Supports such as therapy can often be expensive or difficult to access. Headway’s help makes these resources easier for the community to find.
Headway is partnered with many organizations in the area, some of which came out to support at the barbecue.
“We partnered directly with RCMP, Probation Services, Child and Family Services, Hanover School Division, Shared Health, and Southern Health, as well as I mean a number of other great organizations in the community. But yeah, we definitely saw quite a few of them roll through as well.”

Harder Falk says that there are so many amazing organizations in Steinbach, and they are blessed to work with the partners they have.
“This is just amazing. Again, just the generosity of our community. And I mean, there are people who come. To these barbecues, week after week, and are so generous every week,” says Harder Falk
She continues by noting that some supported without expecting anything in return.
“Yeah, amazing to just see again that support even people who maybe didn't get a hotdog, but they're still happy to support.
