Kittens at SAAR

Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue (SAAR) is offering a new incentive to help dozens of cats and kittens find their forever homes.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, SAAR is offering reduced adoption fees and free starter kits with every cat adoption until the end of August.

Michelle Neufeld, President of SAAR, says the donor pledged up to $10,000 to support a campaign to ease pressure on the shelter.

“We probably have over 80 cats in our care, and a lot of them are kittens,” she says. “They just wanted to promote adoptions.”

The adoption fee for kittens has been reduced from $175 to $130, and every cat adoption, regardless of age, comes with a $150 starter package from Pet Valu.

“It comes with a $100 kit of like food, litter, and all of that kind of stuff, and then a $50 gift card to buy whatever you want to buy.”

Neufeld says the campaign has already resulted in quite a few adoptions, and the feedback from new pet owners has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Everybody’s getting those little kits, which they are loving.”

While the donor wished to remain anonymous, Neufeld says their support is making a great impact, and the promotion runs until August 31.

“If you want to adopt a cat, now is the time.”

In addition to this generous gift, Neufeld says donations of all sizes come in, even from children.

“We have kids that do lemonade stands, they give us their birthday money, or they make bracelets, it’s just amazing how many kids actually get involved.”
