The risk of wildfires remains high or very high across most of Manitoba.

Tuesday afternoon, the Manitoba Wildfire Service reported 165 active wildfires—up from 127 just a week ago on July 29.

So far this year, the province has seen 401 wildfires, which is 102 more than the average for this time of year.

Of those fires is Fire EA061 in the eastern Manitoba, which is still out of control and has now burned 331,800 hectares (ha). That is an increase from the province's last update on July 29, when the fire was 329,855 ha.

Due to the fire, the province says park closures and mandatory evacuation orders are in place for most of Atikaki Provincial Park, and for all of Wallace Lake and South Atikaki provincial parks.

While access to Nopiming Provincial Park has reopened, officials say the fire is still smouldering throughout the park.

Manitoba remains under a provincial state of emergency, as the province says it is dealing with the worst wildfire season on record, with over 1.55 million ha burned.

The emergency order is in place until Aug. 8, but could be extended.
