A new provincial highway maintenance contract is bringing jobs and infrastructure support to communities across southeastern Alberta.
LaPrairie Works officially took over operations in Alberta’s Contract Maintenance Area 519 (CMA 519) on Aug. 1, assuming responsibility for provincial highways near Hanna, Oyen, Sunnynook, Empress and Jenner.
The contract has already created more than 20 jobs for local equipment operators, with permanent shop facilities being established in several of the region’s core communities.
The area is a vital agricultural and transportation corridor, with highway routes that serve as lifelines for producers, businesses and residents in rural Alberta.
LaPrairie Works says the jobs come with long-term stability and contribute to local economic growth, while ensuring key roadways are maintained year-round.
The company also plans to collaborate with area stakeholders, including municipal districts, counties, the Special Areas Board and nearby First Nations, to align priorities and respond to community-specific needs.
“We’re committed to delivering services that reflect the priorities of the people who live and work here,” McManus said. “Strong partnerships will help ensure long-term success.”
