For years, the Wheatland & Area Hospice Society has been advocating for hospice care in Wheatland County.

The raise support, the group has been putting on events such as the Harvest for Hospice gala.

This year marks a decade since the organization came together and will be celebrating its tenth anniversary with the gala on November 22.

Teri McKinnon serves on the hospice board and explained why the event was important.

"It stays in sync with our farming for hospice initiative. It is the harvest wrap-up. However, this is a significant milestone because we're celebrating our tenth anniversary. So, a decade of hospice and palliative care in the region and the drive to have a sustainable provision of those services going forward."

The hospice board has brought in Lisa Beekman, who has organized events for over a decade.

"You just have to have a ton of community support, and fortunately, we have just been blown away by the community. Baldwin BBQ has offered to cater the event for half the price. Then it comes to booking the Civic Centre and lining up donors and all that. So that is the blood, sweat, and tears of it."

The event will feature live music from local country singer Drew Gregory. This will not be Gregory's first time helping out the hospice society, and he tells StrathmoreNow why he keeps coming back.

"My wife is a nurse as well and has done both ends of the spectrum. She works labour and delivery, but also end-of-life care, and is becoming more and more passionate about the end of life. She was just talking about it a lot, and you know, had wanted to do a charity thing for a while, and the farming for Hospice just works so perfectly for us as we are farmers."

The event will also feature a silent auction, food, and cocktails.

The dress code is cowboy cocktail attire.
