Saskatchewan Government Insurance is reminding residents that safe driving habits apply to more than just cars and trucks.

As summer adventures take people to lakes, trails and golf courses, SGI is urging the public to remain sober behind the wheel of any vehicle — including boats, ATVs, e-scooters and even golf carts.

“Impaired is impaired, and driving is driving. The two don’t mix, no matter what kind of vehicle you’re operating,” SGI said in a public advisory issued Tuesday.

Whether you're enjoying a cabin weekend or hitting the fairway, officials say making safe, sober choices is key to keeping memories positive and tragedy-free.

“We want people to have a good time this summer, and we also want them to stay safe,” said JP Cullen, Chief Operating Officer of SGI's Auto Fund. “We all play a part in ensuring our summertime memories, and the memories for our loved ones, neighbours and friends, stay positive by always making the right choice to never drive impaired.”

If you’ve been drinking or using impairing substances, SGI recommends several safe alternatives to getting behind the wheel:

  • Choose a designated driver

  • Call a sober friend or family member

  • Use a taxi, rideshare, bus, or designated driving service

  • Stay the night and head home safely in the morning

SGI also reminds the public that impaired driving can be reported by calling 911.
