Strathmore Flooring Concepts raised nearly $1,000 for the Wheatland County Food Bank late last month.
On July 24, owners Frank and Dave Friesen held a customer appreciation event and relaunch to show off their brand new showroom. The company sold hot dogs, pop, and chips at the event, with all proceeds going towards the food bank.
"When I grew up, we didn't have much at all," said Frank. "I always thought to myself, if I ever get in the position to help somebody, I will do that."
Dave also spoke about why they chose to donate the funds.
"The need has increased so much in our world, but especially in Strathmore, so we felt it was a good joint venture to help them out."
In total, the event raised 284 pounds of dry groceries and $909 in cash. The funds were presented to the food bank on Tuesday (Aug. 5).
According to Lynnette Aschenbrenner, executive director for the food bank, the food will go towards providing fresh food for those who use their services.
"We buy vegetables, fruit, milk, eggs, cheese, and that kind of thing every week," said Aschenbrenner, who also mentioned the importance of having fresh food in a diet.
"We all know how much fresh food costs right now, so us being able to add that extra nutrition is huge."
Frank has been a long-time employee of Strathmore Flooring Concepts, first joining in 2014, while Dave had started working at the store just a few months ago.
