The Kindersley region generated more than $360,000 in Saskatchewan’s latest Crown oil and gas public offering, part of a provincial total that topped $24 million, the largest amount earned from such an offering in more than a decade.
The August 5 sale of oil and natural gas leases and exploration licences brought in $24,312,738.26 across the province, with the Estevan area accounting for the majority of that revenue. The Kindersley area ranked third, with bids totalling $360,130.44.
"I am pleased to see this strong uptake in the Ministry of Energy and Resource's bi-monthly public offering process for Crown oil and gas land," Energy and Resources Minister Colleen Young said. "The oil and gas sector is a pillar of our province's economy and it continues to generate exploration interest. As Saskatchewan's resources generate more investment, it helps to grow the economy and ultimately benefits everyone in the province."
The Estevan area generated $23.4 million in revenue, followed by the Lloydminster area at $545,033.22.
In total, 40 parcels across Saskatchewan received acceptable bids, covering more than 12,000 hectares. This was the third of six scheduled offerings for the 2025-26 fiscal year, which have raised more than $45 million so far.
Leases are issued for five years and grant the right to drill for and produce oil or natural gas. Exploration licences, which last two to five years, are used in less developed areas to encourage exploration and production.
The last time a provincial public offering for oil and gas rights matched or exceeded the August result was in 2014, when bids brought in $48.4 million.
