SaskPower shared more information on Monday morning following a weekend plagued with outages around the region.

Spokesperson Joel Cherry says significant weather was the main factor, confirming that the conditions took out part of a transmission line (photo above).

"It was a stormy weekend, and that can quite often lead to outages," said Cherry, adding that around 1/3 of the provinces outages are caused by weather.

The main outage, still affecting some customers into Monday, saw a temporary fix back on Friday that restored power for a short time on Saturday afternoon.

Now crews are headed back out today for a full fix, as Cherry said the initial repairs did not hold.

"(Sunday) night we had the power go out again, and we were able to fairly quickly restore power for most of the customers who were affected by switching."

Some 4100 customers were without power as a result of the original outage, but Cherry said the partial restoration brought the lights back on for around 3000, leaving over 1000 customers still without power in the Fox Valley, Burstall, Liebenthal, surrounding areas as of Monday morning.

"They are probably going to be off until about 5:00 PM, because we have to get crews out to site to make the fix... I guess there was an inch of rain in the area, so the ground is quite wet," said Cherry as access to the site is currently difficult. "We are certainly trying to get out there as quickly as we can to get those repairs done and get our customers restored."

The nasty weather started back on Friday night as multiple outages hit the region. You can keep up with the crown corporation's work through the SaskPower outages map HERE, and follow along on X for up-to-the-minute updates.
