Saskatchewan motorists will now have access to weekly updates on highway construction projects across the province, the government announced Friday.

Highways Minister David Marit said the new Weekly Orange Zone Construction Update, released every Friday at 10 a.m., will provide drivers with the latest information on new and ongoing projects to help them plan the safest and quickest routes.

“As I am reaching the halfway point of my province-wide summer road tour, I have been consistently hearing from communities … that they want greater access to construction updates,” Marit said in a statement. “We will be able to highlight all new projects that are starting and show motorists where they can view all the ongoing highway construction in Saskatchewan.”

Shantel Lipp, president of the Saskatchewan Heavy Construction Association, said safety remains the top priority in construction zones.

“We urge the public to slow down, stay alert, and respect the signage and people working to maintain and build the roads we all rely on,” Lipp said.

This week’s highlights include:

  • On-road work beginning on a $13.3-million project to repave nearly 19 kilometres of Highway 33 near Fillmore, with a pilot vehicle guiding traffic through the zone.

  • Progress on a $29-million project in the Weyburn area, including a roundabout at Highways 13 and 39 and twinning 5.8 kilometres of Highway 39, with paving expected later this month.

  • Removal of a $21.6-million project to rebuild and repave nearly 22 kilometres of Highway 2 north of Highway 16 from the update list, with only minor off-road cleanup remaining.

More details are available at saskatchewan.ca/orange-zone. Drivers are also advised to check the Highway Hotline before travelling for information on construction, ferry crossings, closures and wildfire-related incidents.

The province says it has invested more than $13.8 billion in transportation infrastructure since 2008, improving more than 21,800 kilometres of highways.
