Folks can tune in to an upcoming webinar, hosted by a Saskatchewan conservation group to prompt to reintroduction of prescribed fire to manage grasslands across the province.
The Saskatchewan Prairie Conservation Action Plan (SK PCAP) will host the free webinar on Wednesday during the noon hour as a part of their monthly Native Prairie Speaker Series.
Caitlin Mroz-Sailer, stewardship coordinator with SK PCAP, shared that this month's educational session will delve into the risks, productivity, and benefits of prescribed fire as a land management practice.
"This webinar in particular is extra special because it'll be done in conjunction with the Transboundary Grasslands Partnership," she said. "This is a pretty new initiative that was started in Alberta in 2016.
"It really focuses on aspects of the environment that don't necessarily respect human boundaries, such as watersheds, wildlife, air quality, and invasive species."
Dr. Dale Gross, former director of the Nature Conservancy of Canada and program manager for the SK Pastures Program, is set to be featured as this month's subject matter expert.
"Gross is a grassland ecologist with Saskatchewan Parks," added Mroz-Sailer. "He's a Saskatchewan farm boy who still works on his family farm and has been very involved in conservation."
Those who are unable to attend the webinar can look for the recorded video on SK PCAP's YouTube page.
Anyone interested in registering for the free webinar can head to PCAP's website for the Zoom link, call (306) 352-0472 for more information, or email pcap@sasktel.net.
