Foothills Advocacy In Motion (FAIM) is showing off its new home in Strathmore later this month.
The grand reopening will take place Aug. 22 from noon to 2 p.m. at the former bowling alley on Westridge Road.
“We previously occupied a space downtown, and we have more than outgrown that space,” said Andi Gawin, director of client services with FAIM. “It’s a much larger building and a much better space for us to call home. We’ve been able to grow a bit and support more individuals.”
FAIM serves the area surrounding Calgary by supporting adults with developmental disabilities. One of its clients is Dave Mason, who has been a part of the organization for more than a decade.
“We learn from each other. We come from different backgrounds, different areas,” said Mason. “FAIM became my second family and gave me opportunities to meet new people, new peers, and see the world in a way I didn’t see before.”
Mason said his favourite part of FAIM is spending time with his peers.
“We laugh, we do activities, we just all like hanging out.”
Mason helps local businesses with recycling and serves hot lunches at George Freeman School through the Falcon Cafe.
The grand reopening will include a community barbecue, ribbon-cutting ceremony, speeches and cake.
The event is sponsored by Tina’s No Frills and Kim’s Katering.
