A record setting regular season ended in playoff disappointment on Tuesday night for the Saskatoon Berries.  A 6-2 loss to the Regina Red Sox in the Western Canadian Baseball League's East Division final officially put Saskatoon's season to an end, as the Berries were unable to replicate their Round 1 performance against Moose Jaw where they rebounded from a series opening loss to advance to the next round.

Game 3 was played in front of a record crowd from NextGen Patch @ Cairns Field, and got off to a fast start as the Berries and Red Sox were tied 1-1 after one. Both sides scored again in the third for a 3-2 Regina lead after three before scoreless innings in the fourth, fifth, and sixth.

The Red Sox used a three run seventh to go up 6-2, and held on from there as Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Spry exited the game in favour of Ayden Page who shut down the Berries pitching 3.2 innings to earn the save.

Finishing the postseason 3-3, the Berries certainly had higher expectations after a record setting 46-9 regular season.

It's not something to dwell on, however, with the fact that 2025 was only the Berries second year in the league. The team may have even more to look forward too next season with another strong team likely coming back, a target on their back; Saskatoon also earning the right to host the 2026 WCBL All-Star game.

As for Regina, the Red Sox will now face the Sylvan Lake Gulls in the league final. It starts Thursday night in Regina at Currie Field, before heading out to Sylvan Lake on Friday for Game 2.

If needed, Game 3 would be played Saturday night in Sylvan Lake.
