On Aug. 11, 2025, just after 8 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP received a call concerning a man, claiming to have a firearm on him, walking in the area of 104 avenue and 110 street, in Grande Prairie. Grande Prairie RCMP, assisted by Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services, responded, located and subsequently arrested the suspect. A search of the suspect incidental to arrest revealed an imitation firearm.

As a result of the investigation, Kyle Benjamin Goertzen (20), a resident of Longview, Alta., was charged with Possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose and obstruct enjoyment of property.

Goertzen was brought before a justice of the peace and released. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on September 3, 2025.
