The Strathmore Spartans football team are about to begin their regular season.
Practice kicks off on Saturday (Aug. 16) before their first game against the Catholic Central Cougars on Aug. 23.
"We had a spring camp in June for two weeks," said head coach Danny Warrack. "We don't get together over the summer. They don't allow you to begin team activities until Aug. 16."
All students in Grades 10-12 at Strathmore High School, Wheatland Crossing, Holy Cross Collegiate, and Rural Route Agriculture Academy are eligible to join by visiting the equipment pickup at Strathmore High on August 15.
"Our home opener is Sept. 5 at Strathmore High School at 4 p.m. against the Bow Valley Bobcats of the Rocky View league," added Warrack.
The coach is expecting his team to have a more competitive attitude this year.
"We've got lots of good talent. Some guys have shown a lot of maturity and growth this last year, while others still need more time. We're making the right steps."
