The Carlyle Caridnals are headed off to the Western Canada Baseball Association Senior Baseball Championships today, capping off a very successful season. The Cardinals took the top spot in the Saskota Baseball League for the 6th year in a row, before also winning a provincial bout for the first time in the club's history.

Now they're headed to an even bigger stage, taking on some of the biggest teams on this side of the country.

Brent McLean, a coach and player for the team, says they're getting ready for some hard-hitting baseball action.

"We know we're we're going to a really elite Tournament that's going to be lots of really good baseball and that's it's gonna be it's gonna be tough."

Among the teams playing are one BC team, two Alberta teams, and two Manitoba teams. The Cardinals will be the lone Saskatchewan representatives on the field, but McLean says theĀ

"We know it's the winners of the Western Canadian champions, so it doesn't really matter whether there are multiple Saskatchewan teams there or not. We're up against good teams from all three provinces."

The trip to Westlock, Alberta, will be the team's longest, clocking in at over 1,000 kilometres, with last year's Westerns taking place in Oak River, Manitoba, just a couple of hours away from the southeast.

McLean hopes to prove that the team can compete at the highest level this year and get a good placement.

"I hope we were able to show what we got and have played some good baseball, and hopefully we're able to make the playoff round come Sunday."

With the first game scheduled for 10:30 a.m., McLean says they hope plenty of fans at home are cheering them on.
