Visitors to Kindersley will soon have a clearer idea of what goes on inside one of the town’s best-known buildings.
Town council voted Monday to rename the Norman Ritchie Community Centre as the Norman Ritchie Community Arts Centre.
Councillors said the change is meant to better reflect the facility’s primary use as a hub for arts programming and events, rather than a general-purpose recreation hall.
“Community centre kind of makes it sound like just a hall or recreation place,”it was said during the meeting. “This way, people coming into the community can see it’s an arts centre.”
Mayor Francis called the request “reasonable,” noting the revised name keeps the existing dedication intact while adding clarity for visitors and residents.
The resolution passed unanimously, and the town will begin updating signage and promotional materials to reflect the new name.
