Hay yields are looking strong around West Central with operations now complete for many producers.
The latest crop report tagged dryland alfalfa at 1.20 tons per acre, brome hay at 0.91, tame hay at 0.77, while greenfeed yielded 2.04 tons per acre. Irrigated alfalfa yielded 3.00 tons per acre, the further statistics showing 2.00 for irrigated brome hay.
The alfalfa and green feed numbers compare well to the provincial averages of 1.10 tonnes per acre and 2.09 tonnes per acre respectively. Same with irrigated hay crops as West Central is yielding much more alfalfa than the provincial average of 1.95 tonnes per acre, slightly behind but still performing well with greenfeed at 2.95 tonnes per acre.
Local silage yields are on the low end, coming in at 4.54 tons per acre compared to the provincial average of 5.25.
